There is a common debate being waged in many MMORPG's these days.  Clickers and Key binders find themselves at odds over their methods of interacting with games such as World of Warcraft, Oro en wow Warhammer Online, and Guild Wars. For those that are not lurking the forums of these games, you may be asking, "what is a clicker or key binder?" Being a clicker means that to use your character's abilities requires you to click on the UI (user interface) icon of that skill with your mouse. The Key bind method uses abilities by mapping or "binding" abilities to specific keyboard keys.

The debate seems to have concluded that clickers are unable to play any game as well as key binding users. The thinking is that clicker are always looking for their abilities on the UI screen and moving the mouse to them. Based on my very unscientific research, I could not disagree with this conclusion.

Due to my Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, this causes my muscles to deteriorate due to an absence of dystrophin.  I am only able to play these games with a mouse. I play an Enhancement Shaman in WoW, and have for 3 years now. I am able to place in the top 5 dps for most raid encounters I participate in, including Serpentshrine Cavern, The Eye, Heroic Naxxramas, and Heroic Obsidian Sanctum. Being a clicker does not mean I cannot play the game as well, in fact, at best it means I am just as good as the next person.

Being good at a game requires the same skills whether you are clicking your abilities or mashing a keyboard, it is just a matter of style. Quality players will have excellent hand eye coordination. They know where their abilities are located, whether on a keyboard or in their on-screen User Interface. Lastly, they understand the intricacies of their character's abilities and how to gear them appropriately to match their playing style.

Nobody truly knows if a clicker or key binder is a better or worse approach to playing most MMO's on the market.  Nevertheless, Oro en wow the conclusion that has been made that one method is better than the other, is hogwash, at best, it is a wash... see you on the battlefield.
